January 10, 2023 Progress report: I’m not ashamed of my unfinished work, and posting it prematurely, before it is resolved, is a means of playing chicken with myself. This here is a painting whose idea came to me demanding to be painted. It is, as a nod to the great masters who came before me, a Madonna. She is pregnant. Pregnant with the Christ. And, she’s crucified. This religious symbolism is taken from my own Catholic/Christian upbringing, and I’ll make no further comment. The rest is up to your own interpretation. The title of this painting is, ‘Ascension of the Great Whore in the Land of Milk and Honey.’ It’s the first time I’ve attempted the figure in an oil painting. I both hate and love the labor of this piece. Be back soon with an update, Friends.
