Andrea Pacione (b. 1978) is an American contemporary oil painter and poet. She serves as an Adjunct Professor for the Arts and Communication Department at SUNY Orange and a Part-Time Oil Painting Instructor for the Adult and Continuing Education Department at Orange-Ulster BOCES. Andrea’s deep background in drawing, painting, research, writing and public speaking has prepared her for these teaching appointments, and for the establishment of her own art studio and gallery hybrid, Pacione Studio Gallery at 75 Broadway in Newburgh, New York. Pacione’s recent solo show, Hot Pink Getaway, debuted at the Mindy Ross Gallery in Kaplan Hall at the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus. This body of work is autobiographic in that it is addresses childhood trauma, chronic illness, the struggle of living with disability; and in the larger sense hopefully encompassing the psychological and spiritual triumph of self- actualization. Andrea graduated from SUNY New Paltz summa cum laude, with high honors. She also continued her scientific and mathematical passions through membership in the New Paltz Biology club and continues interdisciplinary research in her studio process. Andrea wrote the Randi S. Eisman Memorial Scholarship for SUNY Orange, the only scholarship tailored specifically for the visual arts majors.

"The difference between work and labor is that work is something we have to do out of obligation, such as the laundry, dishes, paying bills, etc., while labor is something we do as an act of gratitude towards developing a gift. Labor is the journey from the gift of talent in its naked, undisciplined form to one that is fully realized, and fully received. Labor is the expression of gratitude for the gift. Sometimes when I get to painting, it flows easily and doesn't feel like work at all. It is just an occurrence of my body, like breathing. But, sometimes it is laborious in that I have to work for awhile to get myself into that pure state. Sometimes it is just pushing paint until the right state is achieved. Maybe that moment I labor for is the moment when I am completely out of my own way, and the genie is out of the bottle, doing the work for me. My labor, in that sense, is the exercise of removing myself as the tree laying over the highway, and then the vehicle can just hit full throttle. I always feel extreme gratitude for the labor I put in to achieve that state of being, that feels like flying."
